Wedding Consultations

Wedding Consultations

We like to think that a major part of planning a wedding is choosing the flowers.  With traditional weddings becoming a memory of the past, there are so many options for modern brides to consider.

When choosing a floral designer it is best to set up a consultation so that you can get to know and create a bond between you and the designer.  If you do not know the designer, the designer cannot create the right design for you. Here at J.Kinney you will meet with either our head designer and owner Jane or our designers Mellissa or Ashley to discuss the vision for your wedding. We suggest meeting about 3-8 months before the big day.  A consultation will take between 15 and 30 minutes. Once here we discuss each item you are considering have us design. We encourage you to bring clippings from bridal magazines of flowers, arrangements, or colours that you like.

After the consultation we will send you a copy of your floral quote with a description and price of all the items we will create for your wedding.

Please give us a call at 608.255.7500 or e-mail us at info@jkinneyflorist.com to set up a consultation.

Many brides want to meet a year or more before their big day. To make the most of a full floral consultation it is best to know 3 things. First, what colours you would like to use or at lease what colour your bridesmaid’s dresses will be. We also like to incorporate the style and feeling of the ceremony and reception location into the design. Therefore knowing the venue(s) is helpful as well. Finally, what piece you will need for your wedding - Are you thinking of having an archway, bar arrangements, and 15 corsages for all your aunts or do you only need  a few table arrangements, bouquets, and boutonnieres? If you don’t know these things yet, that’s ok! We welcome you to visit our store and website to get a feel for our style and personality. You can also set up a meeting to get to know us, discuss ideas, and answer any of your questions. When you are ready for a full consultation we can meet with you again to discuss a finalized design plan and determine price.

We do not give price quotes via phone or e-mail without a consultation for two reasons:

1. An important part in creating the perfect floral arrangements for you and your wedding is to choose a designer that can represent your style. Price is an easy variable to change. We can make an item smaller or use less expensive flower but you can’t change the style and personality of a person.

2. Flowers come in all shades, shapes, and sizes. When a bride says she wants a pink rose bouquet we need to establish what type of  pink, what type of rose, and what size bouquet is most appropriate for you. These answers also determine the price. Establishing the answers for these questions is much easier and more accurate when we can meet you or at least have a phone consultation for those brides who cannot meet in our store.

Maileg

March 13th, 2010

Maileg BunnyThese gorgeous, dangly bunny rabbits, with their long ears and limbs, live in a wonderful lair behind a tiny hill-top. There are sisters and brothers, nephews, cousins and a whole family dressed in the most precious knitwear that you wish you could wear. Every morning they wake up the sun, before it rises, and in the evening they eat star-sprinkles with warm milk using a silver spoon.

Ok, maybe these adorable rabbits really come from Maileg, a Danish company that specialized in a contemporary collection of plush animals for children, but we know you will be captured by their cute personalities and think they really do come from a magical place. Maileg was established in 1999 by Dorthe and Erik Mailil. Dorthe is a graphic designer from The Danish Design School and also studied at the E´cole D´art de Marseille in France. The authenticity that underlines Dorthe’s touch has made her a well known graphic designer for both books and magazines. Dorthe´s designs have been featured at the Louvre, Paris – Caixa Forum, in Barcelona, and in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Maileg BunnyMaileg is sold throughout Scandinavia and Europe, and has recently become available in Japan and the U.S. - We are so proud to be one of those shops! Long and lean, these rabbits are the perfect size for cuddling, dressing, and sitting next to their adoring owners. Hugged and kissed for years to come, these rabbits make the perfect gift. We have a variety of sizes just for your special little someone’s birth, baby shower, birthday, or the birth of their new baby sister or brother!

Maruca

March 1st, 2010

Located in Boulder, Colorado these great leather free, jacquard handbags are made in the United States. The fabric and shape are designed by the women at Maruca. Like most women when it comes to their purses, they are extremely picky. It isn’t uncommon for a purse to get a new pocket or have a pocket shifted to the left a half an inch each season. This is because the women of Maruca use their products. They notice, like you, what design makes it is easier to reach your cell phone when the baby is crying and grocer is asking you “paper or plastic”, or what size purse can shove that extra pair of sunglasses in it. If that wasn’t great enough, each season a limited number of purses are made from the season’s fabrics and only sold to select retailers. Madison only has 2! This means a unique purse just for you without breaking that piggy bank!

We are pleased to announce the arrival of Maruca’s 2010 spring/summer line. The new colours and patterns are bold and fun, many even have a botanical inspired print which we love! So let magenta, cobalt blue, lilac, and chartreuse green be your summer colours this year and stop in soon before the perfect purse for you is gone!

Judy Hutter Soaps

February 8th, 2010

We are proud to be the first store to carry Judy Hutter’s high quality soaps. As a Rhinelander, Wisconsin native she began making bars of soap for friends and family, but in 2008 she brought her natural soaps to the public at Rhinelander’s farmers market. We love that each bar typically consists of 40-60% locally sourced ingredients. The combination of natural ingredients including rice bran, sweet almond, and grape seed create a superior cleansing and conditioning experience. She also uses seasonal ingredients to create new scents throughout the year. Ground oats are used in each bar of soap for a gentle exfoliation, benefiting to the overall health of your skin.

Judy’s soaps are cold processed which is very different from glycerin soap. Each bar begins with a base of locally sourced goat’s milk because it is the closest to the pH of our own skin. Once the frozen goat’s milk reaches a soft stage, lye is stirred in vigorously. While the mixture of goat’s milk and lye warm to the appropriate temperature, a combination of animal and vegetable oils are heated. The combination of locally sourced lard, beef, and bear or free roaming Icelandic sheep tallow are used because of their superior cleansing and conditioning properties, ability to enhance the benefits of the other oils, and ability to increase the hardness of the bar, making your soap last longer. A variation of coconut, olive, sweet almond, grape seed, avocado, hemp, apricot & palm kernel, rice bran, sunflower, safflower, evening primrose, and castor oils along with cocoa and shea butters are added to condition your skin. When all the temperatures are in agreement, the lye/goat milk solution is mixed into the oil solution and left to set. At this point a mixture of ground oats, fragrance oils, exfoliants, and herbs are introduced. When the resulting mixture reaches trace it is quickly poured into a mold and left to saponify for 18-24 hours. The soap is then removed from the mold and left to rest for 2-3 days before slicing into individual bars. Finally, it is allowed to cure naturally for about 6 weeks, then washed in salt water, wrapped and labeled, and sent to us!

Judy’s newest line of soaps are sweetly called “Soaps with Coats”. Each aromatic bar is covered in a felted, pure Icelandic wool “coat”. The soap lathers almost instantly, while the coat shrinks along with the bar. “Soaps with Coats” are ideal for your kitchen sink, a camping or hunting trip, in a bathroom, or for those who have trouble with slippery bars of soap.

Lucia Soaps and Candles

April 5th, 2009

Pure Living was founded in January 2002, by Lucie Bernier and Andre Pace who wanted to bring not just good, but great products to customers worldwide. Lucie and Andre are passionate about the products they create and believe in their value to bring health, balance and energy through body and skin care. Finally they believe in the power of taking time to nourish our skin and protect it against the effects of aging and pollution, all without breaking the bank.

Pure Living stands true to their word when they say they commit them self to a superior product. J. Kinney Florist is proud to carry Lucia, Pure Living’s line of bath and body soap. orchids underwaterOne of our staff members exchanged vows in August of 2008 and we wanted to show you a few of the final pieces of this modern wedding.  Ashley wanted a lot of color used in a dramatic and modern way.  With some imagination, we came up with a clean look using tall cylinder vases filled with colorful orchids, wire, and rocks to give an underwater appearance. The end result was a sophisticated, modern, and clean look. celosiabells of irelandcake with orchidsAshley's Bouquet

The unique collaboration of the “designers” and the “organizers” is what united Bearington Collection® to become what it is today.

LambyArtists by nature, Betty and Jamie are always creating and improving upon their designs. Over the past eleven years, the Stray family has worked side-by-side to create adorable plush animals, slippers, and rattles that have made quite an impression on the plush industry around the world. They have earned countless awards including Teddy Bear of the Year’s Industry Choice Award and Public Choice Awards. While there have been plenty of changes in the product line over the past decade, the care and dedication put into creating these charming plush items, filled with personality, has remained the same.

Glass Wear

January 31st, 2009

Laura Bosse and Cat Zurchin of Prosperity JewelryLaura Bosse and Catherine Zurchin’s Prosperity Jewelry has been creating glazed ceramic and fired glass jewelry since 1989. They began making jewelry together while waiting tables at the same fine restaurant, and even today they continue to draw on their experience as visual artists (and waitresses) to create jewelry and accessories with unique style.

They founded their business on the simple premise that quality design and hand-made craftsmanship make good fashion sense, and we agree. Each, on-of-a kind piece is made especially for you in their downtown Cleveland, Ohio studio. Young and fun while at the same time clean and elegant, Glass Wear takes you from the office to the restaurant and even for a night on the town.

Glass Wear is made of hand cut pieces of stained glass that are layered with pieces of dichroic glass. You may be wondering what dichroic glass is! It is where the age-old craft of glass making meets the high tech space industry. Micro-thin layers of metal are applied to glass using a vacuum chamber. The type of metal and the order in which they are deposited determine the colors you see. Each metal reflects certain colours of light and allows the remaining wave-lengths to be seen. This process replicates the way nature creates iridescent colours seen in bird feathers, dragonfly wings, and fish scales. The dichroic pieces of glass are then fused in a 1300 degree F glass kiln thus creating a unique pair of earrings to accentuate your style.
